American Idol's Carrie Underwood Won the Academy of Country Music's Top Entertainer

The small-town Oklahoma girl Carrie Underwood has taken her career to a higher step by winning the Academy of Country Music's top entertainer on Sunday night for the second year in a row.

It came just months after Taylor Swift was named entertainer of the year at the rival Country Music Awards. Underwood said backstage that it was a big night for women in country music.

Another big winner on the ACM night is Miranda Lambert, who was named top female vocalist and given the prestigious award for best album for "Revolution", as well as taking home the best video prize for "White Liar".

Underwood shied away from taking too much credit for representing country's new class of female artists. "It's not just me," she said, "It's Miranda [Lambert]. She was all over the place. It's Reba, who always continues to show us how it's done. There are so many beautiful, strong, extremely talented and smart women who are just making headlines left and right, and I'm honored to be with them. It's amazing company, and I think it's only going to get better."

Underwood first shot to fame five years ago on TV's "American Idol", and has already won three top awards during her short career: new artist, female vocalist and entertainer of the year.
