If you thought shoe boxes were just for storing your receipts in, take a look at PUMA’s new cool little red one. After almost 2 years of design collaboration between Fuseproject (the design firm led by Yves Behar), and PUMA sportswear’s design magicians, their cool red shoebox -- called the Clever Little Bag -- decreases cardboard use by 65%, eliminates tissue paper, plastic bags and a laminated cardboard exterior. Made from PET plastic, it requires no assembly, is fully recyclable, stylish and oh-so-earth friendly.
PUMA estimates their cool little red box will save up on energy, water, fuel consumption during manufacturing by 60% (8,500 tons of paper, 20 million mega joules of electricity, 264,000 gallons of fuel, and 264 gallons of water). You’ll see these hit the stores sometime in 2011. Now you can spend on shoes and help the planet too!
The introduction of PUMA’s innovative packaging and distribution system will reduce the paper used for shoeboxes by 65% and carbon emissions by 10,000 tons per year -- the remaining packaging materials used will be fully sustainable by 2015.
