Japanese hardware manufacturer Toshiba has released four new laptops in its Satellite prosumer range and will be available in the UK over the next couple of months.
The top of the range and arguably the most impressive is the A660; it comes with a 16-inch LED-backlit screen with a slightly disappointing WXGA resolution, a choice of processors from Intel's newest Core family, up to 8GB memory, up to 640GB hard disk drive and an Nvidia graphics card.
There's a HDMI connection, an option for a Bluray optical drive, Harman Kardon speakers, Toshiba's own DNLA-compatible Media Controller and LifeSpace multimedia features plus a reworked keyboard layout.
The A660 comes with a dedicated keypad, what appears to be chicklet keys and a touchpad that is on the left of the palm rest, great for right hand users but not so great for the others.
Interestingly, there's a novel USB Sleep-and-Music functionality that allows the user to convert the laptop into a docking station for an external MP3 device that will stream audio content through its speakers even if when switched down.
