Jennifer Saunders has confirmed that she is writing the Spice Girls musical.
Last week, it was reported that Saunders had been signed up to pen Viva Forever, which will feature some of the group's biggest hits.
In a statement, the 52-year-old said that she was "thrilled and terrified" to work on the project, but added that it had been "great fun so far".
Judy Craymer, who produced the ABBA musical Mamma Mia!, said that the show will feature a "new contemporary story about friendship, celebrity and fame".
"Having Jennifer Saunders on board is the best possible start Viva Forever can have," she said.
Saunders added: "It is very exciting to be writing a musical that encompasses the music and energy of the biggest girl band of all time."
Producers are reportedly hoping that the show will open in London's West End in 2012.
