Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has refused to address rumours that she is pregnant with her first child.
In a feature for Le Parisien, the French first lady spoke with six readers, one of whom asked her directly whether she and president Nicolas Sarkozy are expecting a baby following reports which surfaced last week in Closer, claiming that she would welcome a son later this year.
"If you'll allow me, I'd rather not answer these family questions," she responded. "But on this subject, in some ways my lips are sealed. Not through arrogance or because I like keeping secrets."
She went on to say that the discussion would distract from more important matters, adding: "My lips are sealed to protect something and to protect all the work [my husband] does. I would really like to talk about it, but then it would take over everything else."
The baby would be the fourth for Sarkozy, who is already father to two sons from his first marriage to Marie-Dominique Culioli and one son from his marriage to Cécilia Ciganer-Albéniz.
