Greener, Cleaner Fuels For U.S. Air Force - - Successful Flight of An A-10C Thunderbolt II Using a Blend of Green Fuel and Conventional Jet Fuel

After being criticized for consuming billions of liters of precious fuel annually, the U.S. Air Force has commenced its efforts towards greener, cleaner fuels. The U.S. Air Force has just announced the successful flight of an A-10C Thunderbolt II using a blend of half camelina and half conventional jet fuel. Moreover, it plans to test the blend on additional aircrafts over the next couple of years.

The fuel is obtained from camelina plant, which is much like a weed and doesn’t need much water or other resources to grow. Moreover, since the plant is a not a food crop, it suits the job of being a fuel provider. The Air Force is also planning to put half their fleet on alternative fuels by 2016, and have certifications to operate all aircrafts of sustainable fuels by 2012.
