Brazil: Latin America held its first ever Pet Fashion Week with stylish dogs ‘catwalk’ on the ramp in Brazil’s business capital Sao Paulo.
Design awards and other special events were part of the Pet Fashion Week’s campaign to ‘foster design and innovation’ in pet jewelry, collars, leashes, bedding, fragrances and grooming products.
According to 2008 estimates, Brazil has the world’s second largest pet dog population with thirty million animals, only behind the United States with sixty million.
The "model" dogs wore looks by six Brazilian and three foreign designers, drawing loud sighs and laughter from the public. Leather jackets, fancy party dresses, hats and even bath robes designed especially for dogs colored the runway during the thirty-minute show.
New York, Tokyo and Moscow have hosted previous editions of Pet Fashion Week.
The event’s head organizer said promoting the fashion week in Brazil would help stimulate the local pet industry.
Cristine Vargas, Pet Shop Owner, said, "The collars were beautiful and luxurious. The clothes were very rich with lots of details. Very good, it was really worth it."
