Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has revealed that he’s suffering from liver cirrhosis.
Even though the disease is associated with alcoholics, Big B contracted it through blood transfusion during the emergency surgery he underwent in 1982 after getting fatally hurt on the sets of Manmohan Desai’s film ‘Coolie’.
“Friends, relatives, well wishers and the workers and staff of our pharmaceutical factory, all lined up (to give blood)...Some of the blood from an unknown donor was infected with the Australian antigen Hepatitis,” the 67-year-old superstar wrote on his blog.
However, the infection went undetected until year 2000 when an MRI scan revealed that a part of Big B’s liver was destroyed by it.
“Eight years ago, during the course of an MRI, they discovered that 25 per cent of my liver had been destroyed by it. I was, therefore, technically or shall we say in medical terminology, a patient by default,” Big B posted.
Now, the superstar has to get his liver medically investigated after every few months.
“For me, this is an every three month procedure,” he revealed.
