Li Hui’s ‘Transition’ is an amazing work of art. For anyone who enjoys the view of a crashed vehicle that was salvaged for an art exhibit, this is definitely for you.
The exhibition consisted of a wrecked Jeep Cherokee, which was then illuminated by 13,000 red lasers that were placed on the ceiling above the vehicle. Previously, Li Hui had meticulously bandaged the Jeep. Thus, the heat provided from the lasers above caused vapors to emit from the cloth, which gave it a red misty atmosphere. The combination made for angry yet beautiful exhibition.
"The idea of transforming something negative into something positive is deeply rooted in Chinese philosophy. May be I brought it over into this work unconsciously. Also the influence of Buddhism play a crucial role, especially the meaning of metempsychosis, which is expressed by the rising fog.
