Barnes & Noble bookstore chain in the United States, unveiled Tuesday a new version of its e-reader. Indeed, given the features added – now it comes with Android and support third-party applications – the device, called Nook Color should be elevated to the category of the tablets, despite its low cost: $ 249.
The device has its own light, so the user does not need external lighting to use it, but according to Jamie Iannone, who led product development, the screen – seven inches, 1024 x 600 resolution and supports up to 16 million colors – was designed to reduce glare, so as not to impede reading.
Internal memory is 8GB – room for about 6,000 books – that can be expanded with microSD cards, and battery, according to Barnes & Noble, stand eight hours of reading, with Wi-Fi off. The downside is the lack of 3G connection.
The tablet has a program for creating and editing of Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and dictionary browser itself, and fast access to e-mail, Facebook and Twitter. Plays audio files (MP3, AAC) and video (MP4), and displays pictures (JPEG), and open document in PDF.
The company also launched its own platform for application development, since the Android Market is not supported. The Nook Color weighs 0.44 kg and reaches the market on November 19. It is already available for pre-sale.
