Huayra Supercar from Italian Automaker Pagani Blocked by U.S. Authorities Due to Insufficient Safety Measures

U.S. authorities have refused to allow the sale of Italian supercar ‘Huayra’, twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder carbon-titanium car, due to less-than-required safety standards followed by Pagani, the manufacturer of Huayra.

Italian automaker Pagani had plans to start selling $1 million, 700 horsepower Huayra supercar in the U.S. later this year but federal safety regulators have said "Not so fast."

At about 3,000 pounds, Pagani boasts that the Huayra is the lightest car in its class, enabling it to go from a zero to 60 miles per hour in about 3.5 seconds.

According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA); Pagani was looking for discharge from federal auto safety rules involving child-safe "advanced" airbags, with a viewpoint that conforming to the rule would have caused "substantial economic hardship." Therefore, NHTSA blocked the sale of car in U.S. which was expected in somewhere in last quarter of 2011.

Paganai spokeswoman Sanaz Bakhtiari told that the company will not step back and will try to start selling the car next year, after complying with required safety standards. 

The Huayra, pronounced "why-rah," is named after the ancient Andean wind god Aymara Huayra Tata.

This F2O design by Belgian industrial designer David Cardoso L  has been made to go on the road as well as in the water. Looking like a small aircraft, it has adjustable wheels that can also be used as propellers.

The F2O by David Cardoso L is electric-powered, so it is eco-friendly and safe for the fish. The huge rear spoiler suggests that it is a fast going vehicle. Let’s hope that this concept will be brought to life one day and will be seen being driven or at least floating somewhere.

‘Nissan Esflow’: All-new Battery Powered Stallion - - Set to Be Launched at Geneva Auto Show in March

Japanese automaker Nissan Motors is set to launch the all-new battery-powered ‘Nissan Esflow’ in March this year at the Geneva Auto Show. The all-electric Japanese tech-piece is already buzzing around the web with many images and company provided details.  

As per the details available, the Nissan Esflow idea, which is attached to the electric underpinnings of the Leaf (Nissan's four-door electric car), gets a remarkable similarity to its gas-powered 370Z Stablemate, with a likely touch of the old BMW M Couple in its hatchback-like rear haunches and inclined roofline. Up front, a long and wide hood provides approach to a sharply raked windscreen. Front and rear bumper projects are smallest, with the large wheels pushed to the limits of the car. 

Interior photos not yet revealed by Nissan; but an exterior shot discloses a bit of racing style seating usually found on a Ferrari F430 Challenge Stradale, signifying the sporting target of this electric stallion.

“Marusia” Formula-1 Car unveiled at BBC Television Centre today. The tele-show-like unveiling ceremony was seen in London only; while Russians can enjoy its recording later on.

Russia-based Nikolai Fomenko Motors Company has designed and built “Marusia” Formula-1 Car. Mr. Fomenko, the founder of the company, was a singer and actor with an extraordinary affection for speedsters. The company’s first produced car “Marussia” B1 featured in popular TV show “Top Gear”, which immediately caught the attention of Britons. Jeremy Clarkson, the show presenter, admired immensely the technical specs and features of the vehicle.

 In 2009 Marussia Motors purchased major portion of shares of British Virgin Racing to form a new “Marussia Virgin Racing” and “Marusia” Formula-1 Car is the first production of the merged company which will bear MVR-02 logo.

A trial run is scheduled in Spain on February 10, which is highly recommended to watch for racing car lovers.

Vision EfficientDynamics Concept Sportscar From BMW - - Eco-friendly and Fuel Efficient Car Offers a Mileage of 75.1mpg And a CO2 Emission Rating of 99 Grams Per Kilometer

BMW has finally announced that its Vision EfficientDynamics concept vehicle will enter production. Initially showcased at the IAA last year, the four seater sportscar is being touted to combine the performance of a BMW M Car with the fuel economy and emissions bettering a small car. 

The vehicle is powered by the company’s ActiveHybrid technology, which includes a 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine coupled with a hybrid synchronous motor for the front axle and a full hybrid engine at the rear axle. Combined the powertrains generate 328bhp of power, allowing the vehicle to hit a speed of 62mph in just 4.8 seconds.

The vehicle’s lithium-polymer rechargeable battery pack offers an emission free ride of about 50km after which the diesel engine kicks in to add 650km of range on 24-liters of diesel. The fuel efficient car offers a mileage of 75.1mpg and a CO2 emission rating of 99 grams per kilometer. Recharging the battery pack takes just 2.5 hours using a conventional power socket. The company hasn’t revealed the exact launch date and the price of the vehicle.

 Sunreef Yachts has collaborated with BMT Naval Architects to come up with a new range of powerful catamarans. Their 40m Power Catamaran with the help of its dual engines can attain top speed of 20 knots with a range of 2,600nm. But this is not their best. There are other catamarans in the making, one of which will have the top speed of 32 knots, and another one will even reach speeds of upto 41 knots with the help of its twin engines and two turbo engines.

But going back to the 40m Power Catamaran, this boat will have three decks. The main deck will have two VIP suites, a fully equipped kitchen, and also a gym. The main deck also has the living room that can accommodate 12 gusts at a time and comes with a bar, a lounge, and sliding doors that bring out to the rear terrace and the pool.

The upper deck is reserved for the master, with a big master bedroom and a great view. If you want to relax outside or sunbathe, then there are several couches outside for that. The boat also has a garage to keep you jet skis or any other water sport equipment.

Christened the INIZIO: All-American Electric Supercar From Li-ion Motors - - Top Speed of 170mph With a Single Charge Lasting About 250 Miles

North Carolina-based Li-ion Motors has revealed its all-electric beast, which is being claimed to be the first all-American electric supercar. Christened the INIZIO, the electric roadster fits two individuals and can purportedly hit a top speed of 170mph with a single charge lasting about 250 miles.

The supercar hits a speed of 60mph in 3.4 seconds and seats the two occupants in adjustable, leather Recaro seating with heating and cooling systems installed to make the ride comfortable. The vehicle also includes a built-in 12-inch subwoofer, digital surround sound system, integrated navigation system, DVD player and rotational doors that rise on a 90-degree angle.

The company also claims that the lithium-ion powerhouse can be recharged 2500 times with a full recharge taking up to 8 hours. The vehicle is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2011 with a starting price of $139,000.

ItalDesign-Giugiaro Quaranta Concept Car - - Eco-friendly Speedster Can Reach Speeds up to 155 mph

We sure would love to ride in a cab that looked like that! The ItalDesign-Giugiaro Quaranta concept car was recently retrofitted with a meter, white paint and a dome light to shuttle fares around the Italian capital at the same rate as any other taxi in the city. It is supposed to be the fastest hybrid car that can reach speeds up to 155 mph and can can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds! The solar powered car is fitted with two solar panels and can fit two passengers.

Though mostly concept cars haven't had a long shelf life. They usually do the rounds at auto shows for which they are built and eventually go into museums. Even this car was created to mark the design house’s 40th anniversary and made its debut at the 2008Geneva Motor Show. The Quaranta is powered by the hybrid power-train from the Lexus RX400h and the above mentioned solar panels.

One lucky customer said: “This city is so full of traffic that only a helicopter would get you where you want to go faster but at least you arrive in real style.” That sure is true. Whats more is that this car is eco-friendly as well!

"Road Rocket" Created by Tim Cotterill - - 30 Years Old Design Got Life Through Blastolene Brothers

Ingenuity knows no bondage and sky is the only limit. This suits no better than a Britisher who is burning the Los Angeles streets with his self made unique trike. The proud man is Tim Cotterill, 60, who’s created a 200mph monster trike that he named as Road Rocket. Powering this three wheeler vehicle is a 1000bhp Hemi engine usually found in powerful American dragsters. The three-wheeler is too fast and to hack its speed down, the vehicle incorporates a built-in parachute.


Though the design was sketched by Tim 30 years ago, but the work started on it in 2006 and his hand-drawn design was brought to life this year by the specialist bike makers, the Blastolene Brothers. This trike is five meter-long, weights 1225kg and has wide handlebars that took engineers 23 attempts to come up with a steering mechanism that worked for it. Herculean efforts put in by Tim and engineers finally paid and what an amazing creation they’ve come up with.

2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car: A Product From The Collaboration of Ford and Hurst - - Unveiled During the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Race at Virginia

Ford and Hurst once again toiled together to create a special 2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car. The car has been unveiled during the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) and will also appear at the Hot Rod Power Tour, a slew of Larry H. Miller dealerships and finally at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas before being auctioned off next January.

Hurst Mustang Pace Car will be equipped with V8 engine that churns out 550hp and 542 lb.-ft of torque. Other than this, the car features a new Ford racing polished supercharger, Ford Racing FR500S stainless-steel cat-back exhaust, K&N filter and Ford Racing suspension.

Also, there will be an upgraded braking system featuring 14″ rotors and 4-piston calipers from Ford racing, Hurst competition/plus shifter with black T-handle, 20-inch forged aluminum Hurst wheels with BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires and Hurst leather interior.

Well, this is not all but the car has a noble cause as well. The proceeds from the car’s sale will benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

Auto China 2010: Mecedes Set to Unveil New Four-door Coupe Concept Car Dubbed As ‘Shooting Break Concept’

Mercedes is slated to show a four-door coupe concept car at Auto China 2010, to be held from April 25 to May 2. Dubbed the ‘Shooting Break Concept’, it’s part Estate car and part sports car with extra space for luggage, reports gizmag.com.



It also has a sloping tail end, highly practical interior layout and 306 bhp direct injection V6 petrol engine. The star of the car are its full LED headlamps. The Intelligent Light System has five functions — country lights, motorway lights, enhanced fog lights, active curve lights and cornering lights — and combines LED technology with Adaptive Highbeam Assist for a safer drive at night.

The Shooting Break Concept car features a completely new front design, but makes use of elements which are mindful of the SLS AMG super sports car: the radiator grille, with the large star and eye-catching, bionic slats, is not integrated into the bonnet, but has been designed separately in the form of a ‘soft nose’.

The side profile is given a touch of dynamism thanks to the high, exaggerated beltline sweeping towards the rear, and the dramatic character line which is supported by the powerful-looking rear wheel arches. The coupé-like side view is also emphasised with a low window design, which also highlights the greenhouse with polished aluminium trim.

Under the bonnet is the forerunner to the forthcoming new V-engine generation from Mercedes-Benz. The V6 benefits from a 60° cylinder angle and a displacement of 3.5 litres, and is characterised by direct injection featuring a control system which enables lean-burn operation.

The six-cylinder engine produces 225 kW (306 hp) with a maximum torque of 370 Nm and in line with the BlueEFFICIENCY criteria of Mercedes-Benz also sets new standards among the competition in terms of fuel consumption.

The proportions are clearly those of a coupé: the long bonnet, narrow-look windows with frameless side windows, and dynamic roof sloping back towards the rear create a basic stance with which it looks ready for the off.

It is only when taking a second look that it becomes clear that the car actually has four doors and an estate rear.
The sporty look of the Shooting Break concept car is complemented with large 20-inch sterling silver wheels, featuring a special bionically arranged five-spoke filigree design.

However unlikely it is that Batman would get a beamer, this car would look right at home racing down the streets of Gotham City. This car is a design for the real world to help us fight the greatest super villain of them all: rising gas prices. The BMW Concept 20 is the latest in the long line of hybrid designs that keep getting sleeker and sleeker.

The one thing I love about beamers is that they never seem to age, and the BMW Concept 20 would likely holds its style weight for years. I mean, just look at those sliding doors. If this baby doesn’t inspire you to dress up in a cape and fight injustice at night, I don’t know what will.
